Lewis Power is an award winning British designer who graduated in Industrial Design at Northumbria University, School of Design. He has since established his studio focusing on lighting and commonplace objects. His direction explores the balance between traditional archetypes and a considered eye for the future. He believes through the variety of materials and processes available, sensitivity must be maintained to not only produce aesthetically pleasing objects but the experience and overall usefulness that follows.
Iron is the fourth most common element in the earth's crust and can be fully recycled to produce products of equal integrity to the product it has been recycled from. Further to this, cast iron can be recycled indefinitely with no decline in properties.
The design collection (more cast products to come!) was also about reviving a neglected material and tapping into the tactic expertise of local manufactures; expertise that has developed over generations and whose work is seen in the architectural fabric of the north of England. These manufacturers are under pressure, the design offers a model for how designers can make better use of the knowledge and skill at a local level. Pool Bowl was also designed with longevity in mind, not attached to specific trends the product is designed for time and certainly made for it with its durable long-lasting material properties.
