Born and raised in London, Ella trained in jewellery design at Central Saint Martins graduating in 2015.
After graduation she took a break from the bench and pursued a career in marketing in the arts and cultural sector. This included time working for the prestigious Goldsmiths’ Fair and South Bank London.
Throughout her marketing career she had been quietly working on the brand outside her 9-5. However over the coronavirus pandemic, she was furloughed giving her the time she needed to grow the brand. Subsequently she was made redundant, which turned out to be a blessing in disguise - she threw everything she had into Ella Stern Studio, and hasn't looked back since!
Having been fortunate enough to spend so much time in the capital surrounded by some of the boldest art, architecture and style, there is no denying that London has had a big impact on the way Ella designs.
Over the years’ her designing and ways of working have evolved hugely. However, traditional silver-smithing techniques have remained at the core of every collection. Every last piece is made by Ella at my bench.
Taking influence from abstract sculpture and Modernist and Biomorphic movements, she designs pieces for the unconventional wearer that are bold, modern and sculptural. Ella loves rich texture, imperfection, curvy shapes, wavy lines, asymmetry and bright colours.
Ultimately, Ella makes jewellery to be worn everyday and cherished forever. Believing that jewellery is there to be worn and enjoyed - life is too short and nothing should be saved for best!
Ella is currently in the process of making the brand as sustainable as possible. She use recycled metals and works with a London based casting specialist who specifically only uses recycled metal.
